Difference between AutoCAD and MicroStation | MicroStation Vs AutoCAD

There are lots of talks have been done about Autocad and Microstation software. There is no clear winner between Autocad and Microstation.

There are lots of similarities and differences between this two software.

Companies are used to this software as per their requirement.

Personally, I use Autocad so I thought that Autocad is best due to its ease of usability and simple interface.

Recently I tried Microstation also and found that with MicroStation possibilities are unlimited.

Basically, Autocad is drafting software while Microstation deals with both 2D and 3D.

In AutoCAD, you use the keyboard to enter commands while in Microstation you can use tool palettes and ribbon to pick commands.

I have presented the difference between Autocad and Microstation in tabular form.

AutocadMicroStation
1. It is drafting software.1. It can be used for both drafting and modeling.
2. Drafting is easy.2. Drafting is difficult compared to AutoCAD.
3. It is 2D/3D drawing tool.3. It is engineering-specific cad software.
4. Autocad is concerned with design and documentation.4. Microstation concerned with design and production.
5. It is a discipline-specific package.5. It is a project-specific package.
6. Autocad is a design-oriented software.6. Microstation is an engineering-oriented software.
7. Learning is easy.7. Learning is slightly difficult.
8. Can be used for large-scale projects.8. It is also can be used for large-scale projects.
9. It can be used for building construction, and pre/post-development.9. It is particularly used for engineering-specific cad.

Final Thought

As we can see there is no clear winner but AutoCAD is more popular compared to Microstation.

If want to do only drafting work then AutoCad is best but If you want to do 3D modeling then MicroStation is best.

AutoCAD focuses on drafting work but in Microstation, you can do drafting as well as 3D modeling.
